Welcome to first grade! It is one of the most incredible years your child will have in his/her school career. First grade is a time of tremendous growth in students and it always seems to fly by!
In reading, your child will be learning new phonics patterns to promote decoding and spelling and will also work daily on fluency and comprehension skills. Your child will read alone, in a small group, with partners, and in a whole group setting. Your child will learn to write for a purpose and will move through the steps of writing with an emphasis on editing with correct capitalization and punctuation. In math we dive into topics like 1 and 2 digit addition and subtraction, place value, geometry, measurement, time, and fluency practice. Science and Social Studies are embedded in our reading curriculum, but we do have some special topics that allow us to experiment and create! Thank you for sharing your child with us!
Please contact us at any time if you have any questions or concerns!
