Second Grade

Second grade is an exciting year full of fun and learning! Students are encouraged to be creative problem-solvers and independent thinkers, as they become authors, researchers, mathematicians, and reading detectives. In reading, the students will strengthen comprehension skills, and read widely across all genres. In math, the students will increase their addition and subtraction math fact fluency, learn numbers up to 1,000, use measurement, and create and solve word problems. Second graders are expected to compose a well—structured paragraph in all areas of writing and in response to texts. In science and social studies, the students will learn about famous inventors, geography, various cultures, animals and habitats.

Throughout this journey, your second grader will grow into a responsible, productive, and respectful citizen of our school and community. The second grade teachers at Station Camp Elementary look forward to partnering with you and your child to make this a successful year, as your student transitions from the primary grades to the intermediate grades!
